Riley travels to the South Pacific island
of Moorea with his Uncle Max, Aunt Martha and Cousin Alice
to study the local spinner dolphin population while basking
in the warmth and charm of Polynesian culture. However, their
mission takes a turn for the worse when a pod of dolphins
become dangerously trapped in a local lagoon!
Riley holds the key to their survival,
but between surfing and close encounters with humpback whales,
will he realize it in time? And can this daring young explorer
do it alone? Based on actual events, Adventures of Riley #4:
Dolphins in Danger also features Dr. Michael Poole, the world's
leading authority on spinner dolphins. Award-winning visuals,
thrilling storylines, curriculum applications, kid-friendly
fact boxes and cutting-edge science distinguish this landmark
new series as a pioneer in Environmental Education for children.
In 1997, Amanda Lumry formed Vista
Press, with the help of photographer and husband Loren Wengerd,
to produce and publish photography books that focus on issues
relating to cultural and wildlife conservation and preservation
for all ages. Her book credits include Nantucket Borders
( March 1998), MalaMala: Pathway of an African Eden
(June 1999), Cayman: A Photographic Journey Through the
Islands (June 2000), and Holmespun: An Intimate
Portrait of an Amish and Mennonite Community (September
2002) Lumry enjoys traveling the world and supporting charitable
and conservational causes through her photography. Lumry donates
a portion of the proceeds from MalaMala to the World Wildlife
Funds in South Africa and the United States and to the Endangered
Wildlife Trust. Lumry also offers her photographic services
in the Dominican Republic for ex-Seattle Mariner Dave Valle's
nonprofit organization, Esperanza, which provides small loans
for single mothers.
Laura Hurwitz lives in North Haven,
Connecticut with her husband Sam and their six children. She
graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with a degree
in English. She attended the Wesleyan Writer's Conference
in 2002. She is an avid runner, plays tennis, and loves music
in general (and Dave Matthews in particular). Housecleaning
and cooking are at the bottom of her to-do list. Laura reads
incessantly, and genuinely enjoys the process of writing.
Sarah McIntyre grew up in Bellevue,
Washington, and studied Russian at Bryn Mawr College. She
lives in south London, and loves rambling around the old shipping
docks by the Thames and learning odd bits of history about
the area. Besides London, her favorite places in the world
(so far) are Moscow, Seldovia in Alaska and Deogarh in India.
She dreams of living on a boat, but has to agree with her
husband when he says that they have a hard enough time keeping
an apartment tidy, and where would they put all the books?
Good point, she thinks. At the moment, she is looking for
a friend with a boat.
