“Montgomery-Fate’s beautiful,
prayerful prose details the complex connections and conflicts
between art, family, and faith. To create, to care, and to
believe all require hard work, patience, and an openness to
vulnerability and wonder. With this book’s wisdom in
mind, readers just might do each a little bit better.”
—Bonnie J. Miller-McLemore, author of Let the Children
Come and Also a Mother
“In this fine collection of reflections,
Montgomery-Fate is a natural witness to the natural world.
It is a pleasure to walk through the landscape of his words.”
—Diane Glancy, Macalester College, author of The
Mask Maker and The Relief of America
“Montgomery-Fate opens himself to
the natural world with a vigor that would delight Thoreau.
The prose is clear as running water, and the guiding genius
behind the words invites readers back to the daily miracles
in their own lives.”
—Philip Gerard, author of Creative Nonfiction: Crafting
Stories of Real Life
“This marvelous book is about ‘coming
to your senses.’ It lays out a path for presence in
the world: ‘Be still and know God.’”
—Susan Thistlethwaite, president, Chicago Theological
Seminary
